THE STORY

Cactus are succulent plants with more than 1,700 species that have high water storage capacity. Mostly found and grown in arid and desert areas, some can be seen growing on cliffs and beaches. However, even though the wild cactus family is regulated by the International Convention on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, some of these cacti are rare species and endangered due to huge demand in the horticultural market and illegal smuggling by unscrupulous horticulturalists. Cacti provide food and water for deer, forest rats, rabbits, turkeys, lizards and turtles; the cactus flowers and nectar provide food for birds and insects, which can be seen as indispensable in biodiversity.
